FROM MS FRASER'S DESK
From Ms Frasers Desk
With the end of my appointment here at Westgrove Primary School approaching, it is with great sadness, but immense pride, that I write my final Newsfeed article to you. Over the past twelve months I have felt very much part of the Westgrove PS community. I have valued the welcome by Parents/Carers, the Students and the wider school community. I have thoroughly enjoyed my Principalship and when 2.30pm comes on Friday June 24, 2016 and it is time to say farewell to students and staff I know that I will leave Westgrove PS with a heavy heart.
I said at my first Assembly, that each time I came through the gates whilst working through the term break in readiness for Term 3, 2015, I had a strong feeling of connection. The atmosphere of a vibrant learning community seemed to permeate no matter what part of the school I explored. This became increasingly more evident on the Monday morning with the arrival of the staff, students and families. Westgrove is about ‘students’, we teach ‘students’ …..yes through our curriculum areas but it is all about ‘students’ first.
I have always agreed with the saying that staff are an ‘organisations greatest asset’ and I couldn't agree more about the staff of Westgrove PS. This school has an amazing team of dedicated learning teaching and support staff. Teachers and Support Staff at Westgrove PS are in the profession for the students; they value relationships, promote high expectations and provide contemporary learning opportunities to maximize improved outcomes. With pride l have witnessed daily the positive impact of staff /student relationships and can confidently say that Westgrove PS has a great feel and a great sense of belonging. I attribute 'relationships' between staff and students as the key influencing factor. Visitors to the school also comment about this.
I have also been extremely fortunate to have partnered with two great School Council memberships. I sincerely thank Brian Reynolds, immediate past President, Amber Vidler current President and all 2015 and 2016 Councillors for their input, time and dedication to this wonderful school. I would also like to acknowledge the time and efforts of the small but dedicated team of the former Parents’ Association and current Helping Hands. Fundraising efforts have greatly enhanced many of our programs.
The Leadership Team of 2016; Kerrie Slaymaker, Heidi Morgan, Susan Richardson, Barb Venuto, Cori Camilleri, Linda Attard, Mel Stewart, Melissa Smith and Brooke Barnes, has been a great support and I have been honoured by the opportunity to shape their individual leadership journeys. We have had some amazing professional and strategic discussions and I look forward to learning where their leadership journeys take them.
Westgrove PS is indeed on a journey to be a ‘great’ school and I am confident that with the new Principalship of Tami-Jo Richter along with Kerrie Slaymaker and Heidi Morgan this journey will continue.
Thank you for the opportunity and privilege to be a partner in this journey and I sincerely wish everyone associated with Westgrove PS continued success.
Westgrove will be in my heart forever!
Wishing You a Safe and Happy Term Holiday
